A native New Englander, Jimmy is a product of the Newton, MA public schools. In 1979 he graduated from Tufts University where he started his 40 year career as sports producer at WBZ TV4 at the age 20. Hired by the CBS affiliate in Portland Maine in 1981 as a sports anchor/reporter, Jimmy worked at WGME TV13 for 11 years hosting shows, reporting from major sports events, and doing play by play for area colleges and high schools. In 1992, he returned to his hometown of Newton, MA where he joined the original team of New England Cable News. He hosted "Jimmy Young's Sports World" at NECN from 1992-98. He also won a regional Emmy Award for the nation's first TV sports talk show for kids, Kid Company's Sportworld with Drew Bledsoe as special guest. He currently lives in Needham, MA.
Currently the Co-host on Friday Afternoon Live with Dan Lothian and Jimmy Young streamed on Facebook at Little Park Media. LPM is owned by Dan Lothian a veteran of 35 years at the network news level for NBC, and CNN as White House correspondent.
Jimmy and Dan work together on video production projects, podcasts, and educational opportunities. Jimmy currently teaches an Introduction to Sports Broadcasting on Radio & TV at Curry College, and a graduate course at Dean College focusing on the impact of Mass Media in the digital age. Jimmy is as comfortable on camera, or behind a microphone, as he is in real life.
Since the age of 7, Jimmy loves all sports, especially the one "in season. He excelled at soccer where is has been a fan, player, and coach. Called "jogo bonito", or soccer, he always gave equal respect to the game during his sports career. During the 1994 World Cup in the USA, he interviewed some of the greatest soccer names in history, Pele, Maradona, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, John Harkes, Taylor Twellman et al; Coaches Jack Charlton, Bora Milutinovich, Bruce Arena. the '94 World Cup Highlights show earned Young and his team at NECN, an Emmy nomination for a sports special. In 1996-7, he was the TV color analyst for the NE Revolution MLS team.
As a licensed USSF Youth Coach, he has coached at every level from high school varsity, to state, club, and his son's travel team for 12 years. He is a dedicated father, coach, teacher and mentor to hundreds of young people he has inspired over the past 40 years
